What is a wet room?

Wet rooms are becoming increasingly popular across Kent and the South East of England. A wet room is a type of bathroom which has an open shower area that does not have a shower tray, shower door or curtain. Often the shower area has a glass screen separating it from the rest of the room. Wet rooms have a slightly sloping floor which allows water to flow away towards the drain which is built into the floor. The whole room is designed to be waterproof, with walls that can be easily wiped down.

Part of the reason for the ever-growing popularity of wetrooms is that they are seen as being more stylish and modern than a traditional bathroom. Wetrooms can be very practical because they are so easy to keep clean. There are less nooks and crannies for dirt and mould to hide in - (especially if you utilise glass wall panels in your design) - and any residual water can be simply washed or squeegied down the built-in drain in the floor.

 What you need to consider when installing a wet room

If you are considering creating a wet room in your home, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, you will need to have a waterproof floor. Wet rooms are often located on the ground floor of a home, so this should not be a problem. However, if you live in an older home, you may need to have your floor reinforced before you can install a wet room.
